Have you ever wondered about your dreams and doubted whether they could actually come true? Don’t worry, we all go through bouts of this during our Law of Attraction journey. A vision board (also called a dream board) is a powerful tool to help you push through your doubts and focus on your dreams. In this article you'll learn why a vision board is pure awesome sauce, and how to make a vision board to attract the life that you deserve. Time to conjure up those amazing dreams of yours and “poof!” attract them to your reality.

Why Create a Vision Board?

Believe it or not, your thoughts attract your reality - for better or for worse! Even those déjà vu moments, when certain situations pop up in your life that you know you've experienced before and you think, “Alas there it is (again)! How is this possible?!” happen because you have already had these thoughts - whether it was subconsciously, in a dream, or otherwise. What’s great about vision boards, is that they are very powerful in helping you to use your consciousness to direct your mega-powerful subconscious beliefs and thoughts to attract what you want most, rather than what you fear and worry about most. Fear and doubt have a way of sneaking into your thoughts and taking over, so you need to continuously refocus and point your thoughts toward dreams and desires, which powers your magical magnetic boomerang of Law of Attraction to deliver it to you with a big smile on your face! And that’s exactly why a vision board is a must.

Vision Board Ideas

Now that you know you need one, how can you gain clarity as to what exactly to put on it that will help you attract what you want in life? If you’re not sure exactly what we want, it can feel completely paralyzing. If this is you, my amazing LOA friend, I have a secret in store for you today… You actually don’t have to have it all figured out to start your vision board. In fact, it’s better if you don’t have it all figured out because things have a way of changing for the better along the way.

All you have to do is start with something, and absolute clarity will come with time and as you allow the Law of Attraction to work hand-in-hand with you and guide you. To get things started, it’s helpful to begin by reflecting on key areas of your life. Think about where you are and where you want to be. Some categories to consider (but are not limited to) include :

  • Spiritual Growth
  • Personal Development
  • Education
  • Work & Finances
  • Relationships
  • Social Life
  • Health & Fitness

Have a pen and paper handy to write down vision board ideas that come to you as you set aside time for quiet reflection on what you most want in life right now. Regular meditation can help to clear your mind and allow thoughts to freely flow. Beyond vision boards, meditation is another key part of the manifestation magic that will help you attract your ultimate reality. Besides meditation and quiet moments of reflection, simply pay attention to how you are feeling as you go throughout the day and see if it aligns with how you want to feel (i.e. joyful, healthy, loving, motivated, determined, etc.) These are great indicators and help you know what to add to your board.

As you do this, more ideas will spontaneously manifest themselves to you. This is the Law of Attraction at work! You see, there are fragments here and there in your mind's eye of hopes and dreams that have been overlooked, forgotten, or yet to be revealed. Clarity will come as you patiently move forward. For now, just lay whatever you’ve got out on the vision board. It may seem fragmented or incomplete, but by-and-by every single element of your board is going to become more clear and help guide you on your LOA journey. Think of your dream board as an empowering experience that grows and changes with you as you realize your full potential.

What to Put on a Vision Board

With the ideas now flowing, you’ll want to consider what to actually put on your dream board to represent them. Most often people use quotes, empowering phrases, small items and LOTS & LOTS of pictures that represent your future vision.

Start Gathering Dream Images Right Away

Our subconscious mind thrives on imagery and emotion, so for your vision board it’s important to have more pictures than words. They could be images of your dream house, a new car, extra muscles, money, or extra love in your life… Choose pictures that evoke positive and exciting feelings. It can take some time, so don’t wait to start gathering images for your vision board. For me it’s an ongoing process.

Image Ideas for Vision boards

There are lots of great ways to gather images for your vision board. Start with the way that jives best with your personality and what you have available. Here are some ideas.

Draw Them

If you’re the artistic type, this can add a nice personal touch to your board. You don’t have to illustrate the whole thing if you don’t want to, just the bits and pieces you feel you should.

Magazine Clippings

Old magazines are full of great images and are probably the easiest place for kids to start gathering image ideas for a vision board. You can cut them out and keep them in a folder for when you’re ready to build your board. If you happen to be looking through someone else’s magazine and see something you want for yours and can’t tear it out, you can always take a quick picture with your phone.

Online Images

The online world is full of amazing pictures! Do a Google search and screenshot or save pictures you want to use to a folder on your computer. Personally I love using Pinterest boards. They are so easy to add pictures to and help keep things organized. I make Pinterest boards specific to the areas I have for my vision board and pin anything and everything I find that speak to me there.

If you’re not sure how to pin or save images to your computer, you can use your phone or computer to take screen grabs of the picture you want, then save those screenshots to a folder.

COMING SOON: Screen recording on how to make pinterest boards, save images from google, and do screenshots and grabs… and how to keep things organized

Whichever method you use, be sure to keep things organized so you can quickly find the pictures you want for your vision board when it’s time to make it.

Pictures of you living your dream

Pictures of you living your dream are very powerful. There are a couple of ways to go about this. One way is to snap a picture of yourself at a place or in a situation that is part of your vision board. For example, if you happen to drive by your dream home or park by the car you’ve been thinking about, then go get a selfie or have someone take a picture of you next to it acting like you own it.

The other way is to get your crafting or Photoshopping groove on and cut and paste yourself into your dream situation or place your face on top of your dream body. You get the picture 😉 !

How to Make a Vision Board

Hopefully you’ve got a good idea on how to go about gathering all the images you need for creating your vision board. It’s now time to learn how to make a vision board. Here are the basic steps that we will cover in detail.

  • Pick a Place for it.
  • Decide on your board format & materials.
  • Gather additional resources and supplies.
  • Plan your vision board party! (Solo or with others)
  • Create your dream board.
  • Hang it up, visit and feast on your dreams daily.
  • Keep updating it as your divine destiny becomes more clear.

Pick a Place for Your Vision Board

When it comes to making a vision board, you’ve got options. You have the option to make one big dream board with all of your goals and dreams, or if you like things to have their own special place, you can create smaller boards, each with a different goal or dream. Either way, you’ll want it to look sleek and awesome, as it is representing your ultimate life dreams. You are setting up something that can potentially change the course of your life in the best of ways.

Find a place where you can bond with it daily. I encourage you to put it out in the open in a place where you will see it often throughout the day. Think about where you spend most of your time during a normal day and consider using one of those places. If you feel uncomfortable with others seeing your vision board, you’ll be tempted to hang it up in a closet or some other secret place. WARNING: Please avoid doing this if at all possible. Rather, you can hang it up in a way where it’s easy to flip over and have something else on the other side - your favorite memes or pictures of kittens work great!

Vision Board Formats & Materials

Before you start making your vision board you’ll need to decide if you want a physical board you can touch and hold, or a digital one you can set as a background on your phone and computer. I recommend doing both!

Digital Board Formats

There are a LOT of apps and programs that can help you to easily create a digital vision board. My favorite by far is Canva. It’s free, easy-to-use, and has everything you need to create one. You can even look up pictures right inside of Canva that you can use or upload your own. Here’s a quick walk-through:

Something else you can do, is to take a picture of your physical vision board and put it on your computer and phone. Or you can always take your digital board and print it off for your physical one. Here are some ideas to help you pick the best material for a physical vision board.

Physical Vision Board Materials

In my opinion, if you have the space, bigger is always better when it comes to vision boards, so printer-sized paper just won’t do for me. You also want it to be durable and portable. I personally love using a cork board because it’s big, sturdy, and easy to move things around when I need to. A white cork board brings a great vibe.

But don’t let not having a cork board stop you. Just get started by using what you have available around you.

Some other options that work just fine are:

Tri-fold or Poster Board

Magnetic Whiteboard and Dry/Wet Erase Markers

The important thing is to get started as soon as possible. Start by using your magnets and your fridge if you have to. And actually, using the fridge is really helpful in deciding how you want to lay things out. Once you’ve made a decision on your board material you can now start thinking about the supplies you’ll need.

Vision Board Supplies

Your vision board supplies will vary depending on how you decide to build your board. So go ahead and pick-and-pull from the list below and to make sure you have what you need.

Scissors

Regular scissor or a cutting board can be very helpful, but having a set of decorative edged scissors can add a nice touch.

Decorative Edged Scissors

Stick-it Stuff

This includes decorative push pins, tape, glue, hot glue gun, etc. If you’re planning on gluing then I recommend picking up some double-sided crafters tape. It rolls on easy and instantly sticks. It’s great because you don’t have to worry about burning yourself on the hot glue gun or dealing with sticky fingers.

Inspirational Quotes

Find ones that truly jive with your dreams. Look them up online, print them off, write them out, or grab a pack of inspirational quote cards that you can swap out on your vision board and put up all around the house and in your car.

Don’t forget your dreams!

Have all those pictures and other inspirations handy because they are the most important part.

Consider a Vision Board Kit

If you want to keep things really simple or if you are still feeling unsure about getting started, you can pick up a vision board kit.

Plan Your Vision Board Party Atmosphere

Whether you’ll be building your board alone or with others, it’s going to be a party! Not a party in the traditional sense… You want to create a certain atmosphere that will resonate with your vision board creation - just like you would create an atmosphere with any party! We are all so diverse in our own ways that creating your board will be a unique experience in itself and the ambiance plays a key role in that. Here are some tips to create a perfect atmosphere for your vision board party.

  • Plan enough time.
  • Limit distractions and disturbances.
  • Good tunes.
  • Serene smells.
  • Abundance lighting.

Building your board is a ceremony of sorts, so it’s important to make your area as calm, serene, peaceful, infinite, abundant, and stress-free of a space as possible.

Plan Enough Time

Think about a time you were running late somewhere. How did you feel? Stressful…? Most likely. Just like leaving with plenty of time to get to an important event makes for a relaxing drive, planning enough time to build your vision board is the foundation of having a successful party. I suggest 3 hours, but if you are doing several boards or can’t spare that much time in your schedule, then plan to do them on various days.

Questions to consider when planning a time: What time works best? Sometime on the weekend or perhaps in the evenings? Make the choice that feels best and go with it. Mark your calendar, set a reminder, text out early invites to friends and family. Protect this time, because it is important. Your very dreams and aspirations are depending on it.

Limit Distractions and Disturbances

Phone Holding Box

Think about anything and everything that distracts you during the day. Be it a needy pet or your phone, you’ll want to make a plan so these things don’t bother you when designing your dream board. At the minimum, set your phone on silent. I recommend putting it on airplane mode and placing it far away where there is no temptation to check it. If you need to surf the Internet for ideas and inspiration, have a computer handy. Texts, calls, and checking social media have been the downfall of many a good dream board party. If you have people coming then be sure to let them know that no phones will be allowed while creating. Have a box where everyone can put their phones in and put them in another room during the party. Any box will do, but if you have a lot of people coming you might consider getting a multiple phone holding box so people don’t have to rummage around looking for theirs.

Good Tunes

Good tunes are awesome for setting the mood! What mood music would be suitable for this? Really, any music that is soothing and positive will work great. Classical music is fantastic when it comes to working on vision boards! These tunes can be a huge help to allow creativity to flow freely!

Here are a couple worth listening to:

Serene Smells

When it comes to having the perfect board building party you want to dazzle all of your senses, including smell. The right smells can do wonders for relieving stress and creating a peaceful environment. Using incense or essential oils are two great options.

Abundance Lighting

It's likely that the first thing that comes to mind is candles, and candles are great. If you are going to get standard candles, be sure to set them up in a safe spot before lighting them up. You could even get some with savory smells if you prefer that over incense/oils. But I like the battery operated, flickering candles. You don’t have to worry about a fire hazard and they can be used over and over again.

Another option that people rave about is using a galaxy projector to create a truly cosmic space for building your board. You can even pipe your music through it and change the settings with a remote control.

Creating a space like this is all about you. Think about how you want to feel when working on your board… For ultimate vision board success, it is so important to be in a non-stressful state of mind. If you are set to work on your board and interruptions, distractions, and stresses start to cloud your mind, you’ll have such a hard time putting it together. With these suggestions, you'll create the ultimate atmosphere to put yourself in a great mental and physical place for the dream board of your amazing future to come!

Let's have a look at the process of actually creating your vision board.

Create Your Dream Board

You have the supplies, the atmosphere, and now it’s time to build. We talked a little bit about getting your mind in the right place for this, so before you start cutting, pinning, and pasting you want to take a few minutes to lock in your abundance vibe.

The Abundance Vibe Ritual (Do this Before Starting)

Whether your dream board creation party is by yourself or with others, you’ll want to take a moment for yourself before starting. While sitting in your cosmic space (candles, smells, music) take a minute to inhale and exhale in deep breaths to collect your mind, body, and soul and to prep it for this super awesome journey. If, at any time during this vision board party, you start to feel any stressful ideas and thoughts rolling in, take a breather. Even if you’re in a groove and want to push through, still take a break. It's truly alright. I assure you, it happens… The best thing to do is take a moment and close your eyes and visualize the stress melting away. When you're ready, come back to your vision board where your dreams await! It will go so much smoother as you do this.

Lay it Out and Follow your Intuition

You’re now ready to grab those awesome pictures you’ve been gathering and lay them out in front of you. If you're going the digital route, get Pinterest or your folder full of images up and ready to go. Whatever it may be, have it setup so you can easily scan through all the pictures. Look for anything (ex: pictures or quotes) that embodies any sentiments, possessions, and experiences that you are hoping to draw into your life in a certain area. Take a deep breath and scan the images. Drop any preconceptions of what pictures you thought you would want on your vision board when gathering images. If you do this, you will be drawn to certain ones and they may not be the ones you initially thought while gathering. Those are the ones you want to use!

Maybe you see an amazing picture of a couple that you feel is of utmost perfection of what YOU want in a relationship. Or perhaps you see an awesome gypsy traveler as happy as could be as they are having the most epic adventures of their life. How about your dream career or the car you've always dreamt of having. Let the best picture to use come to you.

As you decide on and start arranging your pictures, you can dazzle it up as much as you like. If you are super creative and got some fun crafty additions, then let those amazing creative juices flow freely. If you love glitter and fun stickers, now is a great time to pull them out and put them to awesome use. Using pictures of your past are also encouraged, so long as they are wonderful memories and something you are extremely proud of, or possibly someone in your life that inspires you.

I'm a big believer of positive and inspirational affirmations and quotes. Pinterest has a motherlode of amazing inspiration, so I truly suggest starting there. Though be ready, you'll find tons of quotes that can overpower your dream board, so pick a couple or a select few that really speak to you on a deeper level.

Begin to piece it together like an ultimate life puzzle. This could very well be the most important puzzle you've ever completed in your life. Once finished, your dreams and goals should be so much clearer. Be sure to take a moment and pat yourself on the back. You've just accomplished something truly incredible.

Now what will you do with your amazing dream space? Let's have a look!

Hang it Up and Feast Daily

As we’ve discussed, once you have completed your board, go hang it up in the place you will notice and visit every day… whether it's on your computer, or on a physical surface of some type. This should be in a place where you enjoy spending some quiet "you" time and a place where you can sit and appreciate this board and continue to visualize it coming to you via your magical invisible boomerang of dreams. I suggest that you use this special space as a place for your manifestation meditation, that way you can truly get a clear image as you are meditating and watch as the magic of manifestation materializes. Another good place may be on the wall across from your bed, and it would be an awesome way to begin and finish each day, as a constant reminder of the amazing life you desire and are attracting.

Keep Refining it as Your Destiny Becomes Clear

Your vision board is a wonderful way to visualize your ultimate dreams and gain a clear idea of what exactly you want most in this amazing life of yours. Consistency is key, so be sure to make time every day to appreciate your board and imagine and truly feel belief in all of your ultimate dreams coming true.

I like to think of it as a race. Except in this race, everyone who finishes is a winner. It doesn’t matter how fast or slow you go, just as long as you keep pressing forward you’ll make it - and win! A vision board is like a runner’s second wind that fuels you with determination, and propels you to keep on with the race and reach the finish line. Your vision board is a wonderful turbo-boost to your day and reminder to keep pushing towards your dreams that are waiting for you.

As you go along you will receive additional inspirations on how to refine your vision board. Follow your intuition. Also, I think you are going to need a decent pair of sunglasses, because your future is already looking extremely bright!
